As a result of the accident in Mayari, five people died and another one sustained serious injuries. Three of the deceased were Cubans residing in the United States, including a minor.
Witnesses report that the accident occurred as a result of a collision between two light vehicles on the highway. Five people died at the scene of the incident, including a child, and another person was hospitalized with serious injuries.
"This horrific incident resulted in irreparable harm to our community. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish for the recovery of the injured," noted a representative of the local authorities.
Investigators are establishing all the circumstances and causes of the tragic accident in order to determine who will be held accountable for what happened.
